Formed in 1918, English Electric was the conglomeration of five business making munitions, armaments and aeroplanes during World War I. Best known for electric motors and transformers for the rail industry the business expanded into consumer electronics, reactors, guided missiles and aircraft. The company is most famous for producing two aircraft; the Canberra and Lightning jets.
