As a flying boat and amphibious aircraft, the Catalina was operated as a maritime bomber, anti-submarine and a search & rescue seaplane. The type was used by numerous air forces including the United States Navy, United States Army Air Force, Royal Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force.
