The Saab JAS 39 Gripen entered service in 1996 and remains the Swedish Air Force's frontline fighter. Capable of Mach 2, the Gripen is a swing-role fighter aircraft that can switch tasks quickly depending on new situations and threats. The JAS 39 has also been exported to the South African, Czech and Hungarian Air Forces.
