Republic F-84 Thunderjet
The Thunderjet entered service with the USAAF in 1947 as a strike aircraft and was used during the Korean War. Famously, the first 'Thunderbirds' display team used the Thunderjet. The F-84 was the first to be capable of in-flight refuelling and carrying a nuclear weapon. The type was eventually developed with a swept wing and re-designated as the Thunderstreak.

The F-111 entered service in 1967 as an interdictor, fighter-bomber and strategic bomber. The F-111 pioneered new technologies such as variable-sweep wings, afterburning turbo fan engines and terrain following radar for low-level tasks at high speed. The Delta Dart is part of the Century Series of jets designated the F-106. It was introduced to the USAF in June 1959 as the ultimate interceptor. Early in its service the aircraft broke a world speed record of 1525 mph, piloted by Major Joseph W. Rogers. Its main role was as an air superiority fighter, seeing service in Alaska, Iceland, Germany and South Korea. The Delta Dart was more commonly known as the 'Six'.

It was introduced to the USAF in May 1958 as a fighter-bomber with a massive payload so Thunderchief was tasked with most of the strike missions during the Vietnam War, but suffered considerable losses. It was capable of Mach 2 at high altitude despite being the largest single seat aircraft produced in the U.S. The Thunderchief was eventually replaced by the F-4 Phantom and F-111 Aardvark.

Eric Lock joined the RAF in 1939, completed his training and joined No.41 Squadron at the very start of the Battle of Britain. He became Britain's highest scoring fighter pilot, but in 1941 was sadly downed by ground fire over France and his body was never recovered. This design celebrates Lock as a Fighter Ace with 26 destroyed to his name, but he was part of the RAF that was served by many men and women who were all heroes.
