The USAF took delivery of the F-16 in 1978 and the aircraft has proved to be one of its most successful fighters with many variants produced for export. The US Airforce Reserve and Air National Guard also operate the F-16. Eventually the F-16 will be replaced by the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lighting II.
